WINDOWS NT 4.0 NETWORK SETUP

Right-click on “Network Neighborhood” icon once.
Choose “Properties” (NOTE: If
“Network Neighborhood” icon isn’t present on desktop, click “Start”
button, choose “Settings,” “Control Panel,” and double click on
“Network” icon). The following
window appears:

Input a Computer Name; the work group can be named ‘Workgroup.”
Click the “Services” tab next. The
following screen appears:

Next, click on the “Protocols” tab.
TCP/IP Protocol should already be installed.
If it isn’t, add it by clicking the ‘Add’ button.
Choose TCP/IP from the list of available protocols and click OK.
Once installed, double-click the “Properties” button.
The following screen appears:

Make sure the installed Ethernet device is selected in the ‘Adapter’
field. ‘Obtain an IP Address from
a DHCP Server’ should be checked. Next,
click on the ‘DNS’ tab; the following screen appears:

Create a host name by using the customer’s 1st initial and
last name. Make sure the
‘Domain’ field matches the above screen shot. With the exception of the
“Host Name” field, your screen should match the one above. Next, click on the “WINS Address” tab; the following
screen appears:

Make sure the correct Ethernet device shows in the “Adapter” field. The
remainder of your screen should match the screenshot above.
Next, click on the “Routing” tab; the following screen appears:

Your screen should match the one shown above.
Click “Apply” and “OK” to exit the TCP / IP Properties window.
8. You are now back to the “Network Properties” window. Click on the “Adapters” tab; the following screen appears:

On this window, you just need to insure that the correct Ethernet device
is showing. Next, click on the
“Routing” tab; the following screen appears.
Make sure the NetBIOS component is not
installed.

10. Click on “Close.” Re-boot the computer; you should be able to get out onto the net.
